Over 50 Venturers
from as far a-field as Kangaroo Island and Lyndoch hiked through the lesser
known areas of Kuitpo on Easter Venture 2003 ‘Middle Earth Madness’.
Perfect weather and many challenging, entertaining, fun activities provided
by Ansteys, Bloo and GRover Rover Crews kept the Venturers on their toes.
E,V, Theme Team provided many other team challenges at each day’s
lunch stop.

The Leader Team led by Rose Eerden provided support, encouragement, advice
and first aid - with blisters being the most common injury. Daniel Jones
and his keen ‘E.V. Hike Team’ set the hike course and each
day put out and retrieved the orienteering/rogaining type markers and
yes they were all in the right place! I did hear a rumour that one control
point was a day late in being collected and so a nameless team ‘picked
up’ some extra points!
Keeping a watchful eye over the whole event was the Scout Radio Group
the members of which kept each of the several support groups in contact
with each other allowing problems, both real and potential, to be contained
and overcome - thanks Moose and the Radio Interest Group.
Thank you to all the Venturers who joined us this year for ‘Middle
Earth Madness’ and to the many leaders/rovers/friends of Scouting
who combined to make E.V.2003 such a great success!
